Since many of us Canadians
were away for the holidays we had an impromtue celebration
in the Red Lion pub.
Lucy Belz, our Auzzie
representative, is standing with Ted Durnford (Arthur
Montague Edward Durnford).
We made Lucy a honourary
Canadian for the night by putting a Canadian flag on her
forehead. (We forgot to mention to her that the flag tatoo
was permanent.)

As you can see the Canadian
flag (aka a towel) was very much in view.

We had a lovely dinner
at the Red Lion Hotel in Salesbury.
This is everyone gathering
in the hotel garden.
There were 37 people
at the dinner.

Andrew Durnford VI and
Lucy Belz.
I was trying to hook
them up. Hey, marrying cousins is a Newfoundland Durnford
tradition, I figured I'd get the rest of the family on
board!

The Newfoundland Durnfords:
Catherine Durnford Kimble,
Gord & Phoebe Durnford, Cynde Durnford-Branecki.
Cynde & Cathie are
from the Rencontre West branch and Gord & his wife
are from the Francois branch.

Here is the famous Black
Horse Pub in Great Durnford. This is the place that started
the whole reunion idea, when Tom Durnford visited there
the owner said he had never met a Durnford.
I thought it was funny
that the owner's name was Skinner. Quite a few Durnfords
have married into Skinner families.

15.
When we told the owner
why we were there he seemed less than impressed. He was
more perterbed that a large group had shown up on his
doorstep (guess his son didn't tell him I called).

Gord
& Phoebe Durnford and Cynde Durnford-Branecki outside
St. Andrew's Church in Great Durnford.
The
church is very old, dating back to at least the 1100s.
We sat in some of the older pews that date back to the
1400s. People sure had smaller rear-ends in those days!
Of
course St. Andrew's recent claim to fame is that it
was the sight of singer Sting's wedding to Trudie Styler
in 1992.

I was out wandering
around Salisbury at
6 a.m. (I guess I was still on California time) taking
photos when I ran into Perc Burrows on his morning stroll
looking dapper as always in his tie.
